The 2024 winner of Visit England Awards for Excellence Large Hotel of the Year – and many other accolades, this Grade II listed building has 207 bedrooms including a Penthouse Suite. Originally built in 1906 as the North Eastern Railway Company’s headquarters and a ‘palace of business’ it is an iconic landmark at the heart of a historic city. Its award-winning SubRosa spa opened in 2026 and offers a range of facilities designed to help guests relax, recharge, and experience wellness in a luxurious setting. Splendid acquired the hotel in 2014.

In 2019, The Cookery School at The Grand, York opened its doors. It offers a variety of classes designed for everyone from novices to aspiring chefs looking to sharpen their culinary skills under the expert guidance of chef tutors. The range of classes, from express to half and full day, focus on cuisine from around the world.
