Shekhar Grover Appointed as Hotel Manager at The Grand, York

The Grand, York has announced the appointment of Shekhar Grover as its new Hotel Manager. Bringing 17 years of outstanding experience in luxury hospitality, Shekhar’s new appointment marks an exciting new leadership era for the hotel, matching the existing high service standards, focus on guest experience and operational direction to take it to a new level, with a wealth of five-star hospitality knowledge to bring to the role.  

Hospitality runs in Shekhar’s blood, growing up around his family’s restaurant in India, ran by his parents. He was further inspired to follow this career path by his cousin, who worked in the cruise industry. Realising he could follow his passions whilst travelling the World, Shekhar landed a role as a Bartender with Royal Caribbean Cruises, starting a 12-year journey that would see him be promoted through the ranks to Senior Beverage Operations Manager, whilst visiting 59 countries. From there, Shekhar worked at five-star hotel, Celtic Manor, in Wales as Director of Food and Beverage, before relocating to Scotland to take on the same role at Fairmont St Andrews, an exclusive property that is part of just eight hotels worldwide. These roles allowed him to upskill himself in valuable five-star luxury standards, whilst stepping into a more senior role.  

Shekhar’s strong background in food and beverage has led to a range of award wins, including being a finalist in the Diageo World Class Best Mixologist In The World Awards, as well as the top 16 in the Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition.  

Commenting on his new role, Shekhar says: “For me, five-star hospitality has always been about creating meaningful experiences and lasting memories. Guests come to us to celebrate life’s most important moments, and being part of that is a real privilege. What stood out to me at The Grand was just how important this was to them, too, by offering guests so much under one roof, whilst seamlessly celebrating the beautiful city that the hotel calls home. From the professional cookery school to SubRosa, a spa offering treatments you won’t find anywhere else in Yorkshire, it’s an experience that really sets The Grand apart.

Growing up in India, I was taught that when someone visits your home, you do everything you can to ensure they leave happy, and that ethos has stayed with me throughout my career. It’s about genuine care, authenticity in service and an unwavering attention to detail.

I’m also committed to supporting our wider community and driving sustainable practices, which aligns closely with The Grand’s values. Having previously worked in a Green Key-certified hotel, I’ve seen first-hand the impact responsible hospitality can have, and I’m excited to continue that journey here in York.”
